Founder Deborah Rosen
Good CitiZEN Dog’s founder and owner, Deborah Rosen, has raised dogs for more than 40 years. She first began training as a hobby over 20 years ago and then -- having discovered her passion — started training professionally in 2001. Shortly thereafter she founded her own firm - Good CitiZEN Dog Training.
Deborah possesses a wealth of dog training experience and a deep understanding of the science of canine behavior. She pairs this with decades of human resources and business experience. The result is a successful business and many happy clients!
Deborah innovated the ZEN methodology — which emphasizes positive, reward-based training, attention and focus and impulse control — and built her curriculum around it. She offers both group and private training. The group classes include basic obedience on every level for puppies and adult dogs and her specialty which is working with reactive dogs..
Deborah's specialty class and the one she is best known for is the Advanced Meet & Greet class for dog-related reactivity and aggression. The private training is offered in packages of sessions to address basic obedience, behavior problems and aggression. There are many different private training options for every budget.
Deborah is now hosting a national podcast called "Dog Dish with Deborah", airing on the Zen Dog Network. Topics include everything related to dog training, behavior, canine nutrition, rainy day tips and tricks, product reviews and so much more! Podcasts are available on iTunes..
In 2013, Deborah took her finely honed business model and created Good CitiZEN Dog — a franchise business that uses the training techniques, methodology and business acumen that she has perfected over the years.
Deborah now helps others follow their dream to work with dogs!
Joe Barlow
Joe Barlow met Deborah and the Good CitiZEN team in 2010 when he enrolled Kato, his Lab/Rottweiller mix in Puppy Kindergarten class. After seeing how valuable the training and socialization was to Kato they enrolled in and graduated from all the basic obedience classes. Kato has been a frequent ambassador pup and visitor ever since. At 13, Kato is the best dog we could ever ask for and much of it is because of what was learned from Good Citizen Dog.
With life-long experience in raising family dogs, and decades of experience as a personal trainer helping humans form better habits, Joe appreciates the Good CitiZEN philosophy of helping dogs and humans communicate. With a degree in Sports Medicine, Joe also appreciates the science-based approach to dog behavior. When not with clients, Joe is on the merry-go-round of sports activities with his daughter and enjoys reading and cheering on the Seahawks. Joe specializes in bigger dogs and looks forward to helping dogs and their humans grow together and form the best possible partnership.
