Puppy Kindergarten

Anyone who wants their "new addition" to be an integral part of your family unit will sign up for this amazing class. It is the premier puppy training class in all of Western Washington. It is a 6-week class designed to cover all the basics of puppy training and care. (Puppies are somewhere between 8 weeks and 6 months old). The initial focus of these classes is to provide intensive on and off-leash socializing opportunities and exercises for the puppies to encourage a sense of confidence and well-being, and to reduce fear. We also focus a great deal of time on puppy basic obedience training, stressing attention and focus exercises (ZEN), impulse control and a variety of skills, including recall, (come when called), no jumping and leash walking. And, we are educating dog owners to understand how to communicate and train their pups. Our puppy training classes are incredibly fun and way more interesting and educational than anywhere else! It's a MUST DO!

Puppy II (Intermediate Puppy)

This is the second level class in the puppy series and is designed for slightly older puppies, generally between 5 and 10 months. This is a 6-week class with a greater focus on basic obedience skills, extended impulse control, including "down/stay" and a longer distance recall (come when called). We still have plenty of on and off-leash play and interaction with other dogs and people. We break for play a little less, but there is still plenty of structured playtime to monitor the pups "play skills" and to encourage them to make new friends and play well. Like human children, It is important to continue training and educating your older pup. This is the time to manage fear and aggression and gain greater control, in general, before it becomes a problem. Owners learn even more in this class about how to be a fantastic dog handler. Puppy II is imperative for continuing your pup's education.

If you missed our Puppy Kindergarten but have an older puppy and you want to jump into this class, it is recommended that you do a private session to bring your pup's and your skills up to the right level. For more info, please contact Deborah@goodcitizendog.com

Advanced Obedience (AKC Canine Good Citizen Certification Class)

This class is designed for older puppies over and adult dogs with at least an intermediate level of training experience and skill. This challenging 6-week class focuses on basic obedience and will wrap up with the AKC CGC (Canine Good Citizen) certification test. There will still be plenty of on and off-leash socializing and supervised playtime, but we will spend much more time in this class working on building more reliable skills. This class is meant to “seal the deal” on your training and set you up for the lifelong relationship you want with your best furry friend.

We will pay a great deal of attention to helping the dogs “generalize” all of their skills and make sure you have success with the skills that are most important, with and without distractions. We will also do more advanced attention and focus exercises, develop a great “recall” from a distance, with distractions, and achieve amazing impulse control. Distractions in class will make training at home much easier.
